The Museum of Contemporary Art was founded by Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation. It consists of two wings: the museum’s original building, which houses a permanent exhibition of works by Michalis Tombros – a native of Andros -, as well as paintings and sculptures by Bouzianis, Tsarouchis, Gaitis, Hatzikyriakos – Ghikas, Moralis, Vassiliou, Takis, Fassianos, etc.
Every summer, the four-storey high new wing hosts temporary exhibitions of international acclaim, featuring works by famous Greek and foreign artists (Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky, Chagall, Henry Moore, Toulouse Lautrec, Bouzianis, Tetsis, Morallis, etc.)
The museum also has a projection hall, a shop (selling exhibition catalogues, postcards and posters) on the ground floor and a library a little further down.
