The island of Andros is the northernmost of the Cycladic cluster and thus the closest to Athens, which makes it ideal for holidays, weekends away and daytrips. It has daily ferry connections, from the port of Rafina-Attica (2-5 connections daily, depending on the season).
There are regularly scheduled KTEL bus connections to Rafina both from Mavromateon Street on the Pedio tou Areos Park, and from the Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, which is located just 10 km away from Rafina.
After a comfortable two-hour journey on board of a safe, state-of-the-art line boat, you will arrive at the port of Gavrio, on the north-western coast of Andros, where you will disembark.
In addition to the main road axis, which links Gavrio to Chora, there are many driving options across the island’s tens of miles of asphalt or well-maintained dirt roads. So you will get to see a lot more of the island and its stunning beaches if you take your car over on the ferry.
You can also rent a car or a bike in one of Gavrio, Batsi or Chora’s rental agencies.
There are local KTEL bus connections from the port of Gavrio to Batsi, Korthi and Chora, as well as connections from Chora to the island’s major villages. Bus services between Gavrio and Batsi/Korthi/Chora connect with the ferry arrival and departure times (back and forth).
There is also a sufficient number of taxis to take you wherever you want to go.
Daily ferry connections are available from Andros to Tinos and Mykonos. You can visit the famous “Panagia” (Church of Our Lady) in Tinos on a day trip. Note that connections are also available to Syros, Paros and Naxos in the summer.
