Driving towards east, you will come across St. Peter. An interesting monument is the St. Peter’s Tower (4th century B.C.), which is believed to have served as a beacon to send messages across the island by use of fire.
The island successively fell under Roman, Venetian and Ottoman rule.
Looking southwards, the road to Batsi is bordered with long clean beaches, such as the Liopesi and the organized, blue flagged beach of Agios Petros. The exquisite and wind-sheltered beach of Chrysi Ammos (Golden Beach), which also boasts a blue flag, is the place to go if you like water sports, though it can get quite crowded.
