Gavrio of Andros

Gavrio From the port of Gavrio you can drive in virtually any direction and the main road leading to Batsi and Chora starts from here. A second, smaller road links the north of Gavrio to the Cavo d’Oro area, leading to the villages of Kato Fellos and Pano Fellos, Ammolochos, Mirmingies, Psoriariza, Sidontas, Makrotantalo, Chartes, Palaistou, Frousei, Varidi and Kalyvari, all quaint and worth seeing.

Gavrio gets quite busy with tourists, especially in the summer months at ferry arrival and departure times. The port is buzzing with taverns, meze places, bars, bakeries, gift and other shops, ferry travel agencies and car/bike rental agencies. Hotels and rental apartments are available in the area. It is also home to the island’s only camping site.
The Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi In Gavrio, you will find a branch of the ‘Agrotiki’ bank (Agricultural Bank of Greece) and Eurobank ATM cash machines.

If you‘re visiting the island in the summer, you won’t want to miss the “Gavriotica” festival, organized every year in Gavrio in conjunction with cultural societies. The festival covers a wide range of events (for further details ask for the Municipality’s program).

If you enjoy reading, pay a visit to the annual book exhibition (running through July and August) at Logari’s bookshop, where you can also attend book presentations.
